You served, but returning to civilian life does not always come with a clear set of orders. Sleep may become difficult. Crowded places can leave you scanning for danger. You may feel disconnected from the people closest to you or increasingly rely on alcohol or other substances to quiet thoughts that will not slow down.
These experiences do not mean something is wrong with you. They may reflect the lasting effects of trauma, operational stress, loss, or a major change in identity and routine.
Archway Behavioral Health provides veteran mental health treatment in Boca Raton, Florida, for former service members experiencing PTSD, anxiety, depression, substance use, and co-occurring conditions. Our clinicians have experience working with military members and develop individualized treatment plans shaped around your history, symptoms, responsibilities, and goals.
Talk confidentially with a team experienced in supporting military members through trauma, mental health concerns, and substance use.
Military service can affect people in different ways. Some veterans experience symptoms connected to a particular event, while others feel the accumulated effects of prolonged stress, repeated losses, difficult transitions, or experiences that occurred throughout their service.
A thorough assessment helps us understand the complete picture – not simply assign a diagnosis based on one symptom.
Combat exposure, military sexual trauma, serious injury, loss, and other distressing experiences can continue affecting a veteran long after service ends. Symptoms may include:
PTSD treatment for veterans begins with understanding your experiences, current symptoms, safety, and readiness for trauma-focused work. Your treatment plan can move at a pace that feels manageable while helping you develop skills for navigating distress.
The transition out of the military can involve changes in structure, identity, relationships, employment, and community. Some veterans begin feeling persistently anxious, irritable, emotionally numb, isolated, or unsure of their purpose.
These experiences may contribute to anxiety, depression, panic, mood instability, or difficulty connecting with others. Veterans’ PTSD treatment may also address these related symptoms when they occur alongside trauma.
Some veterans turn to alcohol, prescription medications, or other substances to manage physical pain, sleep problems, anxiety, intrusive memories, or emotional distress. What begins as a way to cope can gradually become harder to control.
Our veterans’ substance abuse treatment services address both substance use and the concerns that may be driving it. Substance use treatment for veterans may include therapy, medical support when necessary, relapse-prevention planning, and care for co-occurring mental health conditions.
Veteran addiction treatment is most effective when trauma, mood symptoms, and substance use are considered together as part of one coordinated plan. The appropriate setting and intensity of care—including whether withdrawal management is needed—are determined through clinical assessment, consistent with ASAM guidelines.
Leaving the military can mean losing a familiar structure, mission, community, and chain of command. Veterans may struggle with relationships, employment, education, or daily routines while still responding to stress in ways that once supported survival.
Treatment can help you understand these responses, rebuild a sense of direction, and develop practical skills for civilian life.
Every treatment plan begins with a confidential clinical assessment. We take time to understand your military experience, symptoms, substance use, physical health, previous treatment, responsibilities, and personal goals.
From there, our clinical team recommends the therapies and level of care that best fit your needs. Medical support may also be incorporated when clinically appropriate. Clinical assessment determines whether outpatient, PHP, IOP, or virtual treatment is the right starting point.
No two veterans enter treatment with the same history. One person may need focused support for intrusive memories and disrupted sleep. Another may be managing depression, relationship problems, or alcohol use that developed gradually after leaving the military.
Your plan is built around your current needs instead of applying the same approach to every veteran. We can also adjust treatment as your symptoms, stability, and goals change.
Individual therapy provides a private space to discuss experiences you may not be ready to share with others. You can work directly with a clinician to process difficult experiences, identify patterns, strengthen coping skills, and set personal goals.
Group therapy offers connection, practical support, and opportunities to learn alongside other people working through trauma, mental health symptoms, substance use, or major life transitions.
Archway’s partial hospitalization program provides structured daytime treatment for veterans who need more support than traditional weekly therapy but do not require inpatient hospitalization.
PHP may include several hours of treatment each day while allowing you to return home after programming. This level of care can provide added structure, clinical oversight, therapy, and medical support when necessary.
Archway’s intensive outpatient program provides structured treatment with more scheduling flexibility than PHP.
IOP may be appropriate for veterans who are medically stable but still need consistent therapeutic support. Many participants can continue working, attending school, caring for family members, and managing other responsibilities while receiving treatment.
Some veterans begin in IOP, while others transition into it after completing a more structured level of care.
Not every veteran can commit to a fixed weekly schedule in Boca Raton—deployment history, work, family obligations, or distance from our office can make in-person visits hard to sustain. Our virtual treatment program delivers the same clinical standard as our in-person care through secure, HIPAA-compliant video sessions, with both virtual PHP and virtual IOP available depending on the level of support you need.
Virtual PHP is the more intensive option involving multiple therapy sessions most weekdays, combining group work, individual sessions, and relapse-prevention education while you remain at home. Virtual IOP asks less of your calendar and fits well for veterans who are working full time, in school, or stepping down from a higher level of care. Both use the same therapies as our in-person program, delivered by the same licensed clinicians.
Treatment may incorporate several evidence-based therapies based on your symptoms and goals. Archway offers cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, and dialectical behavior therapy skills as part of a single individualized plan, never as separate, competing tracks.
Cognitive behavioral therapy can help veterans recognize how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors influence one another. CBT may be used to address anxiety, depression, trauma-related beliefs, and patterns connected to substance use.
EMDR therapy helps process distressing memories that continue to cause emotional or physical reactions. It’s one of the few therapies specifically named in the Department of Defense and Department of Veterans Affairs practice guidelines as a recommended treatment for trauma populations, and it may be incorporated into PTSD treatment once a veteran is clinically ready for trauma-focused work.
Sessions pair recall of a distressing memory with bilateral stimulation—typically guided eye movements. Veterans often describe being able to recall an incident afterward without the same physical reaction that used to come with it. This isn’t a one-session process; most veterans need multiple sessions per memory, delivered as part of a broader plan alongside individual and group therapy.
Dialectical behavior therapy teaches practical skills for managing intense emotions, tolerating distress, communicating more effectively, and responding to difficult situations without returning to harmful behaviors.
DBT skills may be especially helpful for veterans experiencing anger, impulsivity, relationship conflict, emotional reactivity, or urges to use substances. At Archway, DBT is never offered as a standalone program or a separate level of care, it’s incorporated as one modality within an individualized plan that also includes medical support, individual and group therapy, and other evidence-based approaches.
Archway’s clinicians have experience working with military members and understand that service can shape how someone communicates, responds to stress, views vulnerability, and approaches treatment.
Our program provides:
You do not need to minimize your experiences, translate military terminology, or have everything figured out before contacting us.
Archway Behavioral Health accepts private insurance and most PPO plans. Coverage depends on your provider, policy, clinical needs, and recommended level of care.
Our admissions team can contact your insurer, review your benefits, and explain the information available before you begin treatment.
Some veterans may qualify for treatment from a community provider through VA Community Care. Eligibility varies, and care generally requires a VA referral and authorization before treatment begins.
Contact the VA directly to determine whether you qualify for Community Care. Archway can separately verify your benefits if you have private insurance or a PPO plan. Do not begin treatment expecting VA reimbursement unless coverage has been confirmed and properly authorized.

A veterans treatment program provides mental health and substance use care informed by experiences that may occur during or after military service. Treatment may address combat trauma, operational stress, military sexual trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, substance use, and adjustment to civilian life.
A clinical veterans treatment program is different from Veterans Treatment Court, which is a court-supervised diversion program within the legal system.
Archway treats PTSD, trauma, anxiety, depression, mood symptoms, substance use disorders, and co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions. Treatment recommendations are based on each veteran’s assessment and individual needs.
Outpatient treatment may be appropriate when a veteran is medically stable and can safely remain at home while participating in care. The right level of care depends on symptom severity, safety concerns, substance use, daily functioning, and previous treatment.
Archway’s assessment helps determine whether PHP, IOP, virtual treatment, or another level of support is appropriate.
Veteran-informed treatment considers how military culture, service history, deployment, trauma, loss, and the transition to civilian life may affect mental health and substance use. This context helps the clinical team understand the veteran’s experiences and personalize treatment accordingly.
Yes. Archway’s virtual treatment program offers the same clinical standard as our in-person care, including virtual PHP and IOP, for veterans who need flexibility around work, family, or distance from Boca Raton.
Many veterans can continue working or attending school while participating in outpatient or virtual treatment. The amount of flexibility depends on whether you enter PHP, IOP, or another form of care. Archway will review scheduling and program expectations with you before treatment begins.
Many private insurance and PPO plans include benefits for mental health and substance use treatment. Exact coverage varies. Archway can verify your benefits and explain the information provided by your insurer.
